Kintbury
is a charming village in the Kennet Valley between Hungerford
and Newbury, one of many lovely villages in the area. The river
Kennet and the Kennet and Avon Canal are on the north side with
their lovely watermeadows beyond, while to the south the land
rises steadily to the chalk downs. It is a very beautiful area
with many woods and pastures in unspoilt countryside. Motorway
Junctions 13 (Newbury) and 14 (Hungerford )are within easy reach
with fast access from Heathrow, London and the West Country.
The village also enjoys a main-line station with regular
services to Reading and London Paddington.
Kintbury
is an old village: documentary evidence of its existence dates
from 93.A.D. but the Romans were here earlier and by Domesday
1087, it had seven entries in the great book. The Normans built
the large church, whose churchyard in Spring is white with wild
snowdrops. The centre of the village is much the same in its
layout as it was 1000 years ago but the buildings are, of
course, later - 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th century and in the
centre are very good shops attracting many from other villages,
the 'local' shop where one can buy the necessities of life, and
also a butcher, gift shop, cake shop with further businesses
planned.
There are also two village pubs and one pub/restaurant/hotel set
on the banks of the river Kennet. There are many other excellent
village pubs and restaurants in nearby villages.

The village is within easy driving distance of Bath, Oxford,
Swindon, Reading and London.
The population of Kintbury has increased in recent years,
particularly so since the arrival of the I.T. industry in the
area during the 1980’s (Vodafone is a large local employer) but
still retains its village character and has the reputation of
being very friendly with strong sense of community.
There is a strong 'Neighbourhood Watch' presence and many local
'Interest Groups' that also all welcome new members. A
local 'Volunteer Group' operates to support the sick and
the elderly, the village also benefits from it's own Dispensing
Doctor's Surgery.
